About Me

Hello! My name is Sarah, I create handcrafted jewellery and home décor pieces. I specialise in reclaimed copper, recycled silver and ethically-sourced gemstones. Welcome to my website and online store. Come in and take a look round!

I first launched my business in 2019, initially as Whittle Wire and now as Green Maiden Designs. It was an outlet for my lifelong love of jewellery, and to spread the feeling of joy it gives you when you wear it. As a young child, I would raid my mum’s jewellery box and was often seen wearing many layers of 1970s chunky chains, pendants and bangles. As a young teenager, I made jewellery for myself, family and friends; some pieces I still own today although fashions have changed a bit over the years. After over 20 years in research science, I decided on a career break and took up jewellery making once more - this time working with metal and gemstones!

I now spend most of my day designing and creating in my home studio in Cambridgeshire.

Creating something beautiful out of something so mundane as copper wire makes me so happy. I have trained in jewellery techniques and silversmithing with many establishments, including gaining a Diploma in Silver Jewellery with the Jewellers Academy, but my greatest achievement is still knowing that other people love my work as much as I love creating it.

When I am not creating, I enjoy getting out and about with my gorgeous pooch. After his walk, he keeps me company in the studio - he will fuss and nudge to remind me that its lunch time, but on the whole he’s a very good crafting companion.
